The track, which features on the film Selma, won both artists their first Golden Globes ever.
Besides the win by Common and John (who Chrissey caught watching football at the table together earlier in the evening), the night belonged to the film Boyhood, which won three awards, including the prestigious Best Motion Picture award, and TV Drama The Affair which surprised many by walked away with two awards on the night.
