Sarkodie's Mom Didn't Want Him To Pursue His Career As A Rapper

Before Sarkodie became Sarkodie, his mother was not in support of his pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. This bit of information came to light after a hiplife artist Pharuk Jbreal tweeted that the superstar rapper’s mother was not a big fan of her son’s chosen path.

Pharuk jbreal spilled more tea when he was contacted by Pulse.com.gh to elaborate on the tweet; he said Sarkodie’s mom used to go to the studio that her son usually frequented to warn the engineer there to not allow her son come into his studio anymore.

“I happen to know Sarkodie before he became a big star and even have songs with him. He hasn’t changed in terms of character, he is not into drugs and lives quiet a decent life. It is obvious that his mum is proud of what her son has turned out to be. I have seen her at some of his events and it says it all. I can understand his mothers concerns at that time, there are quiet some disturbing stories about musicians out there and as a mother you can only be vigilant and look out for your child. Am sure sarkodie will one day get a degree or even go beyond that, education is not a race” Pharuk Jbreal said.

This engineer apparently is Nana Fynn, Ghanaian Highlife artist.

This is no surprise, especially in an African/ Ghanaian household, where every parent wants their child to either be a doctor or a pilot, or have a ‘respectable job’. No one wants to be the parent encouraging their ward to be a rapper or something in that field, as people feel that being in the entertainment sector means you have no aim in life.

Pharuk Jbreal, formally known as Ruky, is making a comeback to music after taking a hiatus to pursue some corporate ambitions. He found himself in the energy sector and later proceeded to head a multinational company.

“I was on the last chapter of my yet to be launched book called Your Passion Your Paycheck, when the inspiration came for me to get back to what i love, which is music. Sarkodie has also been quiet instrumental for my comeback. Anytime we meet, he makes it a point to encourage me to come back to music because he feels my creative ability is amazing” Pharuk Jbreal added

He also revealed that he will use his music to support developmental issues such as Youth in Agriculture and Zongo communities’ empowerment.

How many of you have your parents support when you said you were diverting from the 'dream' they had built for you?

What do you guys think of this?
